Handles non-normal data without workarounds
Standard capability indices assume normally distributed data — an assumption that frequently fails for real production processes. Analyse-it includes Box-Cox and other power transformations to bring non-normal data into a form where capability indices remain valid. The normal Q-Q plot makes it straightforward to assess whether transformation is needed and whether it’s been effective.
Capability analysis that connects to your control charts
Process capability only makes sense for a stable, in-control process. Analyse-it includes both control charts and capability analysis in the same package, so you can confirm process stability first and then run capability analysis in the same Excel workbook — without transferring data between tools or interpreting capability results for a process that hasn’t been brought under control.
A control chart answers the question: is this process stable? Process capability analysis answers the next question: is a stable process actually capable of meeting the specification? Both questions matter, and they’re most useful when answered together.
The standard approach with separate tools — building control charts in one package, exporting data, importing into another for capability analysis — creates friction and opportunities for error at every transfer point. It also makes it tempting to skip the stability check and run capability analysis on out-of-control processes, which produces meaningless indices.
