Installing Analyse-it on a network

Concurrent-user (floating) licences allow users on a network to share licences for Analyse-it. The number of concurrent user licences determines how many users on the network can use Analyse-it at once. When a user starts Analyse-it a licence is allocated to that user, then released when the user closes Analyse-it & Microsoft Excel. If many users need infrequent access to Analyse-it concurrent network licences can be more cost-effective than per-user licences.

To enable concurrent network licences Analyse-it must be installed on a server. The server need not be a dedicated network server but must be a PC accessible by all network clients (where Analyse-it will used) and must be a PC where Analyse-it will not be used. Network client PCs must reference the folder where Analyse-it is installed using exactly the same UNC path and will require read/write/create access to the Licences folder within the Analyse-it installation folder.

Before installing or updating an installation, we recommend you check our web-site at http://analyse-it.com/support/download to ensure you are using the latest version available.

Installing Analyse-it on the network server

To install Analyse-it on the network server:

  1. Go to a network computer where you have full permissions to install Analyse-it onto a shared network drive. The share should accessible to all the network clients where Analyse-it will be used, and all clients must have full permissions for the System\Licences folder within the folder where you install Analyse-it.
  2. Installing from a downloaded file:
Locate the downloaded .EXE, click Start, then click Run, and then type: C:\Analyse-it_2_30.exe /n (where C:\ is the drive letter and path-name to the download file). The /n option indicates you are performing a network install.
  3. Installing from CD:
Insert the CD in your CD-ROM drive. If the installer automatically starts click Cancel.
Then click Start, then click Run, and then type D:\SETUP.EXE /n and press ENTER (where D:\ is the drive letter of your CD-ROM drive).

  4. The installer will start.
  5. Click Next> to go to step 2. At this stage the installer will check if Microsoft Excel is currently running. If it is please close it before proceeding. If Microsoft Excel is not visible on the Windows Task Bar then it is likely it is used by another application, and hidden, so please close all running applications. If the problem persists please restart Microsoft Windows and start installation again.
  6. The end-user licence agreement (EULA) is shown. Please read the terms of the EULA and tick I accept the agreement option to indicate your consent. If you have any questions about the licence terms then please contact us at support@analyse-it.com before continuing.

  9. Click Next>
  10. By default Analyse-it installs tests for descriptive statistics, comparing pairs and groups, correlation and regression. Tests in other editions, such as the Method Evaluation edition, are also installed by default. Clear the checkboxes alongside any editions if they should not be installed.
  11. Click Next>
  12. The Network options step determines how Analyse-it will be installed on the network clients. The User Interface option controls what installer user-interface is shown on client computers.
  13. None Silent install
Completed Silent install except the completed step shown on completion
Completed on next computer restart Silent install, except the completed step shown on completion, on next computer restart.
Full Shows user interface while installing.
  14. The Start Analyse-it whenever the user Starts Excel option determines how the end-user starts Analyse-it.
  15. Never Analyse-it will not automatically start when Microsoft Excel is started. Instead the user can Manually start Analyse-it when they need it. This is the recommended option as it prevents concurrent network licences been allocated to users that only want to use Microsoft Excel. Auto-start can be enabled later if necessary.
Always Analyse-it will automatically start when Microsoft Excel is started. Convenient if the users always use Analyse-it when they start Microsoft Excel. Auto-start can be disabled later if necessary.
Ask during install Allows the user to decide at the end of installation whether they want Analyse-it to auto-start with Excel.
  16. Click Next>
  17. Click Install> to begin installation. Analyse-it will install the files necessary and show progress while it is doing so.
  18. When installation is complete the next step is to install Analyse-it on the network clients and to unlock it for use on the network. To unlock the software you must install it on a client PC and then Unlock Analyse-it using a product key.
