Setting observation precision

Analyse-it examines the number format applied to the worksheet cells to infer the precision (number of decimal places) of the observations. If no number format, or the Excel General format, is applied Analyse-it will scan the observations and automatically determine the number of decimal places used. Statistics for the variable are then presented based on the precision of the observations (see Presentation precision).

Number formats can be applied to Excel cells as usual, though Analyse-it provides a convenient way to quickly format all the observations of a variable.

To set the number of decimal places:

1. Select a cell in the range of cells containing the data of the variable to format.
2. Click Variable on the Analyse-it tab/toolbar to show the Variable properties dialog box.
   
3. Enter Decimal places to format the observations to.
4. Click OK.

To apply a custom Excel format to a variable:

1. Select a cell in the range of cells containing the data of the variable to format.
2. Click Variable on the Analyse-it tab/toolbar to show the Variable properties dialog box.
   
3. Click Format. Cells containing the data for the variable are selected and the standard Excel Format dialog box is shown, open at the Number format tab.
4. Set the number format as usual, using standard or custom number formats, then click OK.
   
5. Click OK.
