Licensing: Perpetual & Floating LicencesThe license you hold decides which features you can use, how long you can use them, and how many people can use them at once.

When you request a 15-day trial or buy a license you receive a product key. Activating with that product key lets you use the software on a computer.

Perpetual and annual licenses

A perpetual license does not expire and includes one year of maintenance, so you receive all software updates released within that year. Renewing maintenance is optional. If you do not renew, you can keep using the software at no further cost, but only up to the last version released within your maintenance period.

An annual license expires one year after the initial activation and includes maintenance, so you receive all software updates released within that year. Renew the license to continue using the software after it expires.

Per-user and concurrent-user licenses

Fixed, per-user licenses allow a fixed number of people to install and use the software on their computer, and on a laptop for use away from the office. The number of licenses you hold is the number of people who can install it: a 2-user license is for two people. Move a license to another computer by deactivating it first.

Floating, concurrent-user licenses allow any number of people to install the software, but limit how many use it at once. A 5 concurrent-user license lets any number of people install it and up to five of them use it at the same time. Every computer needs an internet connection so the software can manage concurrent use.

Choose concurrent-user licenses when people move between computers, or use a virtual or roaming desktop.

Licenses and Windows accounts

Each Windows account has its own license. Two people who share a computer must each activate, even when the software is installed for everyone who uses that computer. Installing for everyone shares the program files, not the license.

To use the software on a different computer, deactivate it first and then activate on the new computer. See Moving a license to another computer.

What we collect when you activate

When you activate a license we send the product key, the Site ID, and diagnostic information such as the version of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Excel you are using, plus some performance metrics of your computer. The Site ID identifies the computer and Windows account. We use the information to plan the future development of Analyse-it. The only personal information we collect is the name, organisation, and e-mail address you enter during activation, and the IP address your computer connects from. See End-User License Agreement (EULA).

Activating a license

  • Have your product key ready. It appears on your license and starts with P-.
  • If your computer is behind a firewall, open TCP port 443 (HTTPS) for communication to license-server.analyse-it.com.

When you start Microsoft Excel, Analyse-it shows how many days of the free trial remain, or offers you one, and you can click Activate there. Use the steps below if that does not appear.

Activate using the Windows account that will use the software. Each account holds its own license, so activating as an administrator does not activate it for anyone else.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel to start Analyse-it.
  2. On the Analyse-it ribbon tab, click Analyse-it, click Activate, and then click Next.
    The Activate window shows the license details.

  3. Enter the Product Key and the Name, Organisation, and E-mail of the registered user of the software, and then click Next.
    The registered user may occasionally receive an e-mail with important information about updates to Analyse-it. They can opt out using the unsubscribe link in the e-mail.
  4. If activation fails, activate manually:
    1. Click Get Activation Code.
      Your browser opens the manual activation page at analyse-it.com/activate, with the details from the Activate window already filled in.
    2. If the computer has no internet connection, open that page on any other computer or device, and enter the Product Key, Site ID, Name, Organisation, and E-mail shown on the Activate window.
      Important: The Site ID identifies the computer and Windows account. It only shows on the Activate window in the software, so do not contact technical support asking for one. We cannot provide it.

    3. Click Get Activation Code.

      The activation code shows in your browser window.

    4. In the Activate window, enter the Activation code, and then click Next.
  5. Click Close.

The software is licensed on this computer for this Windows account. Anyone else who uses the computer must activate from their own account.

Deactivating a license

  • If your computer is behind a firewall, open TCP port 443 (HTTPS) for communication to license-server.analyse-it.com.

A per-user license is linked to the computer and Windows account it was activated on until you deactivate it. Deactivate before you replace a computer or give it to someone else, otherwise the license is still counted as in use and you may be unable to activate elsewhere.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel to start Analyse-it.
  2. On the Analyse-it ribbon tab, click Analyse-it, click Deactivate, and then click Next.

    The software uses your internet connection to deactivate the license.

  3. If deactivation fails, deactivate manually:
    1. Click Deactivate.
      Your browser opens the manual deactivation page at analyse-it.com/deactivate. If the computer has no internet connection, open that page on any other computer or device.
    2. On the manual deactivation page, enter the Product Key and Site ID shown on the Deactivate window.
      Important: The Site ID identifies the computer and Windows account. It only shows on the Deactivate window in the software, so do not contact technical support asking for one. We cannot provide it.
    3. In the Deactivate window, click Next.
  4. Click Close.

You can no longer use the software on this computer, and you can activate the license on another computer.

Moving a license to another computer

A per-user license is linked to the computer and Windows account it was activated on. Deactivate on the old computer before you activate on the new one, otherwise the license is still counted as in use and activation on the new computer fails.

Copying the program folder, or files from your Windows user profile, does not move the license.

None of this applies to a concurrent-user license. Install on the new computer and activate; the license server manages who is using the software.

  1. Deactivate the license on the old computer.
  2. Install the software on the new computer.
  3. Activate the license on the new computer.
The software is licensed on the new computer. Uninstall it from the old one when you no longer need it. See Uninstalling the software.

Acquiring a concurrent license

  • Activate the software with a concurrent-user license.
  • If your computer is behind a firewall, open TCP port 443 (HTTPS) for communication to license-server.analyse-it.com.

The software acquires a license for you as soon as you use a command on the Analyse-it ribbon tab, so you rarely need to do this yourself. Acquire a license yourself to check one is available before you start work, or to get one again after releasing it.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel to start Analyse-it.
  2. On the Analyse-it ribbon tab, click Analyse-it, and then click Acquire.

    The software connects to the license server and acquires a license.

If a license is acquired, you can use the software. If every license is in use, try again later or ask someone to release one; see Releasing a concurrent license. If that happens often, you need more concurrent-user licenses.

Releasing a concurrent license

  • Activate the software with a concurrent-user license.
  • If your computer is behind a firewall, open TCP port 443 (HTTPS) for communication to license-server.analyse-it.com.

A license is released when you close Microsoft Excel, and automatically after 90 minutes without using an Analyse-it command.

Release a license yourself when you want to keep working in Excel but let someone else start using Analyse-it now.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel to start Analyse-it.
  2. On the Analyse-it ribbon tab, click Analyse-it, and then click Release.

    The software connects to the license server and releases the license allocated to you.

Someone else can now use the software. If you use a command on the Analyse-it ribbon tab, a license is acquired for you again.

Finding out who is using a concurrent license

  • Activate the software with a concurrent-user license.
  • If your computer is behind a firewall, open TCP port 443 (HTTPS) for communication to license-server.analyse-it.com.

When someone cannot start work because every license is in use, find out who is using them.

  1. Start Microsoft Excel to start Analyse-it.
  2. On the Analyse-it ribbon tab, click Analyse-it, and then click About Analyse-it.
    The Active users list shows who is using the software, and how many licenses are still available. The list refreshes while the window is open.

  3. Click Close.
A license held by someone who has stopped using Analyse-it is released after 90 minutes of inactivity. If you often have no licenses available, buy more at analyse-it.com/store/upgrade.
